MICHAEL TYREE (b. 1994) is a violinist, pianist, composer and conductor from Southwest Virginia. He has a Bachelor of Music in Composition from James Madison University, where he studied violin with Dr. Wanchi Huang and composition with Dr. Eric Guinivan and Dr. Jason Haney.

He is currently serves as graduate assistant of orchestras at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, conducting both the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra and the Nebraska Medical Orchestra while studying with Matthew J. Brooks and Mary Perkinson. He is also the music director at Timothy Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, IA. He previously served as music director for the Nelson County Community Orchestra in central Virginia.

An avid traveler, Michael draws inspiration largely from places he has visited around the world including locations in Europe and the nearby mountains, forests, and waterfalls of Shenandoah National Park. As a composer, he has catalogued works for orchestra, wind band, choir, piano quintet, brass quintet, string quartet, and solo instruments. He also stays active as an arranger and has been commissioned by the University of Nebraskas Heartland Philahrmonic and various string ensembles. In 2018, he was awarded the Zane Busch Award for a presentation of his 2017 setting of Gloria at the 2018 Composer Symposium in Atlanta, and his String Quartets for Spring (Hope Publishing, 2019) was awarded the distinction of editors choice by J.W. Pepper.
