Biography:

Jeffrey began playing piano at the age of 7 and has been playing professionally since the age of 18. While he primarily considers himself a Jazz musician, he studied classical piano with Jean Hegland for 8 years before taking lessons with Jazz Pianist Mary Louise Knutson during his senior year of high school. At Temple University, he studied Jazz piano performance for two years under renowned pianists Joshua Richman, Tom Lawton, and Bruce Barth. Temple also provided many opportunities to play in small group Jazz ensembles and to participate in the larger Jazz scene of Philadelphia. After transferring to St. Olaf in the fall of 2018, he joined their Jazz I ensemble under the direction of Dave Hagedorn. In May of 2019 they were awarded “outstanding performance” in Downbeat Magazine for their fall 2018 concert. As a teacher, Jeffrey first aims to inspire a love of music which in turn motivates practice and mastery. He is a strong believer in listening to music (both live and recorded) which not only feeds this passion but also serves to enhance the technical aspects of playing.
